When do I have to start repaying my student loans?

Every student loan is set up differently and thus different loan programs have very different repayment terms. As you graduate from college, leave school or even drop below half-time enrollment, you have a grace period before you have to begin repayment.

  • For a Federal Stafford Loan, you will have 6 months before you must begin repayment.
  • For a Federal Perkins Loan, you will have 9 months before you must begin repayment.
  • For a PLUS Loan you must begin repayment within 60 days of the final disbursement of the loan monies.
