How Much Does College Cost?

Attending college today can cost a great deal of money. With tuition, room and board fees, books, meal plans, incidentals and living expenses, it can add up fast! But a college degree is just like anything else. You can pay a lot or you can pay very little. Obviously each college has a different cost schedule, but to follow is an estimate of total costs (tuition, books and incidentals, but not room and board or food) for a community college, in-state public university or private academic institution:

TYPE OF SCHOOL WITHOUT GRANTS WITH GRANTS
Community College $4,552 $2,352
In-state public university $17,336 $13,336
Private university $27,674 $35,374
